Hina Battery Launches Sodium-Ion Battery for Commercial Vehicles

Chinese battery manufacturer Hina Battery has unveiled a Sodium-ion Battery solution specifically designed for commercial vehicles. This innovative battery offers long-lasting performance, rapid charging capabilities, and the ability to operate across a wide temperature range.

High Energy Density and Exceptional Charging Speed

Hina’s Sodium-ion Battery, also referred to as the ‘Hina Battery · Haixing’ solution, consists of four products targeting local transport and the logistics sector. Each product is equipped with battery cells boasting an energy density of over 165 Wh/kg. Importantly, these batteries can be fully charged in 20 to 25 minutes, making them ideal for high-demand applications.

One standout feature of these sodium-ion batteries is their lifespan. Despite continuous fast charging, the company claims the batteries can endure over 8,000 charging cycles. This performance is attributed to minimal heat generation during charging. According to Hina, the temperature in the battery pack increases by less than 10 degrees Celsius during fast charging. Low internal resistance in the cells reduces stress on battery chemistry, contributing to their extended lifespan.

Performance in Extreme Temperatures

Another advantage of Hina’s Sodium-ion Battery is its ability to perform reliably under extreme temperatures. The company reports stable discharge performance within a temperature window ranging from -40 to +45 degrees Celsius. This capability ensures consistent operations in various climates, making it suitable for commercial vehicles used in diverse environments.

Cost-Effective Alternative to Lithium-ion Batteries

The sodium-ion technology presented by Hina offers a more affordable solution compared to conventional Lithium-ion batteries. According to Hina’s CEO, Li Shujun, the sodium-ion batteries deliver higher performance at significantly lower costs. This cost-effectiveness can potentially transform the commercial vehicle market, where operational budgets are a key consideration.

Proven Expertise in Sodium-Ion Solutions

Founded in 2017, Hina Battery has become a leader in sodium-ion technology. The company initially utilized its batteries in electric two-wheelers and stationary energy storage systems. By 2023, Hina began integrating sodium-ion batteries into Electric Vehicles, with a prototype developed in collaboration with Sehol (a partnership between JAC and Volkswagen). In early 2024, Hina supplied sodium-ion batteries for JAC’s first production model, the Yiwei 3.

Hina’s consistent focus on sodium-ion technology highlights its commitment to innovation in energy storage. With the introduction of sodium-ion batteries for commercial vehicles, the company is poised to deliver a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional battery technologies.

The launch of Hina’s Sodium-ion Battery solution reflects the growing momentum of sodium-ion technology in the electric vehicle sector. As the company continues to expand its applications, this solution may play a critical role in driving the transition towards cleaner, more efficient commercial transportation.
