Cygni and HiNa Introduce Sodium-ion Energy Solutions for India

Sodium-ion energy solutions are emerging as a significant player in India’s energy storage landscape. Cygni Energy Private Limited, based in Hyderabad, is partnering with HiNa to develop Sodium-ion Battery storage solutions tailored specifically for the Indian market. This collaboration promises a less costly, safer alternative to Lithium-ion batteries.

Sodium-Ion Energy Solutions: A Game Changer for India

Cygni Energy plans to leverage HiNa’s sodium-ion technology to create solutions suitable for Indian conditions. These sodium-ion batteries allow for fast charging in 20 minutes, are cost-effective, and provide high safety standards. These characteristics make them ideal for a range of applications, from telecom towers situated in extreme temperature zones to grid-scale stationary storage.

Why Sodium-Ion Batteries Are Suitable for India

Sodium-based battery chemistry naturally offers enhanced safety compared to other options. With advantages like fast charging, high cycle life, and wide temperature tolerance, these batteries are an excellent fit for Indian needs. Telecom towers, frequently located in sub-zero or very hot environments, benefit significantly from this technology. Moreover, applications such as commercial and industrial energy storage, three-wheeler vehicles, and solar-powered devices can greatly benefit from sodium-ion technology.

HiNa’s Expertise in Sodium-Ion Technology

HiNa is an industry leader with over 100 core patents in sodium-ion technology. The company has been innovating for more than 12 years. It developed the first sodium-ion industry standard and is among the few with commercially proven sodium-ion cells. HiNa’s large-scale manufacturing facilities underscore the technology’s maturity. A 100 MWh grid storage facility has already been powered using its technology.

Advancements Towards India’s Decarbonization Goals

According to Venkat Rajaraman, CEO of Cygni Energy, partnering with HiNa allows them to explore exciting applications in sodium-ion technology. HiNa’s CEO, Kun Tang, emphasized sodium-ion’s potential to support India’s aggressive pursuit of decarbonizing its power and transportation sectors. Sodium-ion technology enhances performance at low temperatures and offers a comparable cycle performance to lithium without relying on critical minerals.

By increasingly adopting sodium-ion technologies, India can accelerate its journey toward decarbonization while reducing dependency on scarce materials.
