Prismatic Sodium-ion Battery development is moving faster in South Korea, and Remplir is now at the center of that shift. The seven-year-old battery startup has developed South Korea’s first prismatic sodium-ion battery and has started customer qualification. In June 2026, the company completed a 170Ah prismatic sodium-ion cell. As a result, Remplir expanded beyond its existing prismatic lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, battery business. Remplir developed the 170Ah prismatic sodium-ion battery at its facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. The company then began performance evaluations with overseas customers. Moreover, Remplir says it is the only company in South Korea that produces both prismatic LFP batteries and prismatic sodium-ion batteries. That position gives the company a clear identity in the domestic battery market.
Earlier in 2026, Remplir earned further recognition for its work. In March, the company received an Innovation Award at InterBattery 2026. That award supported Remplir’s push into next-generation battery products. It also strengthened the company’s profile as it works with customers on qualification and commercialization.
Why Remplir’s prismatic sodium-ion battery stands out
Remplir uses a sodium iron phosphate, or NFPP, cathode in its prismatic sodium-ion battery. This chemistry relies on iron, phosphorus, and sodium. These materials are relatively abundant. According to the company, only the mixing process needs modification. That is the step where electrode materials are blended. As a result, Remplir can use its current production expertise and facilities to support commercialization. How Remplir plans to commercialize its prismatic sodium-ion battery
Chief Executive Kim Su-jin said sodium-ion batteries remain in the early phase of commercialization. However, that timing creates room to build a new supply chain. Kim said the company plans to complete qualification with North American customers first. After that, Remplir aims to commercialize ESS products and broaden its product portfolio.
Today, Remplir operates a 100MWh production line at its Hwaseong plant. The line can produce about 150,000 battery cells per year. In addition, the company is seeking 100 billion won in Series B funding. Remplir plans to use the capital to expand production capacity to the gigawatt-hour, or GWh, level. The funds will also support research and development and manufacturing expansion.
The new lines will mainly produce prismatic LFP batteries. Still, the broader scale-up supports the company’s battery platform strategy, including sodium-ion technology. Part of the future capacity will also go to drone batteries. This approach allows Remplir to serve several fast-growing battery segments while deepening its manufacturing base in South Korea.
Remplir’s wider battery business supports growth
Remplir already supplies prismatic LFP battery cells for multiple industrial uses. For example, it offers 340Ah cells for ESS applications and 230Ah cells for heavy equipment and agricultural machinery. Construction equipment, forklifts, golf carts, and farm machinery are shifting toward battery power. Therefore, demand for prismatic batteries continues to rise.
Remplir differentiates itself by designing customized battery cells for each use case from the electrode stage. That strategy helps the company match performance to customer needs more precisely. At the same time, it strengthens Remplir’s position against standard off-the-shelf products.
Kim said the domestic market for prismatic LFP batteries is expanding quickly as industrial equipment becomes electrified. He also said demand is increasing for locally produced alternatives. Based on that trend, Remplir expects revenue to exceed 12 billion won in 2026. That figure would be more than ten times higher than the previous year.
