Prismatic Sodium-ion Battery development is moving faster in South Korea, and Remplir has taken an early lead. The battery startup has introduced South Korea’s first prismatic sodium-ion battery and has started customer qualification. As a result, the company is expanding beyond its established prismatic lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, battery business. In 2026, that move places Remplir in a strong position in the growing market for energy storage and backup power systems.
Prismatic sodium-ion battery marks a new step for Remplir
Remplir developed a 170Ah prismatic sodium-ion battery in June 2026. The company now produces both prismatic LFP batteries and prismatic sodium-ion batteries in South Korea. That combination sets it apart in the domestic battery sector. In addition, Remplir says even the country’s three largest battery makers do not currently produce prismatic sodium-ion batteries domestically.
Earlier in 2026, the company received an Innovation Award at InterBattery 2026 in March. That recognition added credibility to Remplir’s technology and supported its push into new battery chemistries. Remplir manufactured prototype cells at its Hwaseong facility in Gyeonggi Province. The company is now running performance evaluations with overseas customers. According to Remplir, it is focusing first on energy storage systems, or ESS, and uninterruptible power supply, or UPS, applications.
Those markets are a logical fit for sodium-ion technology. Long cycle life supports repeated charging and discharging in stationary storage. Meanwhile, stable low-temperature performance can add value in a wider range of operating conditions. Therefore, Remplir’s first commercialization plans center on ESS products after customer qualification, especially with North American customers.
Chief Executive Kim Su-jin said sodium-ion batteries remain in the early stage of commercialization. However, she also said that stage creates an opportunity to build a new supply chain. After qualification, the company plans to commercialize ESS products and broaden its portfolio.
Remplir expands production alongside prismatic sodium-ion battery plans
Remplir currently operates a 100MWh production line at its Hwaseong plant. The facility can produce about 150,000 battery cells each year. At the same time, the company is pursuing a 100 billion won Series B funding round. It plans to use the proceeds to expand production capacity to the gigawatt-hour level, enlarge manufacturing facilities, and support research and development.
The new lines will mainly produce prismatic LFP batteries. However, part of the capacity will support drone batteries. This broader production strategy shows that Remplir is building scale across several battery segments while advancing sodium-ion products.
Prismatic battery lineup supports Remplir’s broader growth
Alongside its sodium-ion work, Remplir continues to grow its prismatic LFP battery business. The company supplies 340Ah cells for ESS applications and 230Ah cells for heavy equipment and agricultural machinery. It also develops customized battery cells based on customer needs, starting at the electrode design stage. That approach helps Remplir tailor battery performance to real operating conditions.
Demand is rising as construction equipment, agricultural machinery, forklifts, and golf carts shift from diesel engines and lead-acid batteries to lithium batteries. In this market, Remplir aims to stand out with localized supply and application-specific cell design. Kim said the domestic market for prismatic LFP batteries is expanding quickly as industrial equipment becomes electrified. She also said demand is growing for locally produced alternatives. Based on that momentum, Remplir expects revenue to exceed 12 billion won in 2026, which would be more than ten times last year’s level.
