Sodium-ion grid storage factory will rise in Sacramento
Peak Energy selected Sacramento’s Metro Air Park for the new manufacturing site. The facility will span 183,000 square feet. In addition, it will focus on assembling sodium-ion energy storage systems for utility-scale use. This makes it the first U.S. production site devoted entirely to sodium-ion grid storage manufacturing.
The company said the plant will serve utilities that face fast-rising electricity demand. For example, power use continues to grow as data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure expand. Therefore, utilities need more large-scale storage to balance supply and demand across the grid.

Why Peak Energy chose Sacramento
Peak Energy did not choose Sacramento by chance. Instead, the company ran a competitive nationwide site evaluation before making its final decision. It reviewed labor access, logistics, and policy support. After that process, Sacramento emerged as the preferred location.
The company highlighted several local advantages. First, the region offers access to industrial workers needed for assembly and technical operations. Second, Sacramento provides strong logistics links to western power markets. Third, California offered economic development support that improved the project’s outlook.
Peak Energy said its California expansion received a $10.5 million CalCompetes tax credit in May 2026. That support adds to the financial case for building the factory in the state.
Sodium-ion grid storage factory brings jobs and investment
The project carries an initial capital expenditure of $71 million. Over the next 18 months, Peak Energy expects construction and equipment installation to create 239 local jobs. These roles will support assembly, logistics, and technical operations. In addition, the project could boost nearby suppliers, freight companies, and service businesses.
