Peak Energy to Deliver 4.75 GWh Sodium-Ion Systems to Jupiter Power

Peak Energy recently announced an extensive agreement with Jupiter Power LLC, a leading developer and operator of utility-scale battery energy storage systems.

Sodium-ion Battery Systems: A Breakthrough in Energy Storage

Under this multi-year agreement, Peak Energy is set to supply up to 4.75 GWh of its advanced Sodium-ion Battery energy storage systems (ESS) to Jupiter Power. These systems are scheduled for deployment over several phases between 2027 and 2030.

Peak Energy’s sodium-ion batteries are designed to deliver significantly less degradation compared to traditional Lithium-ion systems. This feature minimizes operations and maintenance costs, making them more efficient and reliable for long-term use. Furthermore, lower system degradation reduces the need for costly system augmentation. This ensures storage capacity can be maintained over the lifespan of a project without requiring additional components.

Innovative Cooling for Safer and Cost-Efficient Operations

One of the standout features of Peak Energy’s sodium-ion systems is their fully passive cooling design. Unlike Lithium-ion technologies, which often require routine maintenance and active cooling parts, this innovative design avoids potential failures and repairs. By removing these components, Peak Energy achieves greater safety, reliability, and operational savings across various energy storage use cases.

CEO Remarks on The Future of Sodium-Ion Batteries

“From day one, we believed sodium-ion would be the leading technology for grid-scale energy storage,” said Landon Mossburg, CEO and Co-Founder of Peak Energy. He emphasized how scaling the world’s largest sodium-ion energy storage system validates this technology’s readiness for immediate and future applications. Sodium-ion batteries are now positioned to serve critical demand from hyperscalers and artificial intelligence while leading the energy storage market.

Performance and Cost Advantages of Sodium-Ion Systems

Peak Energy’s new sodium-ion (NFPP) system brings further advancements. By eliminating active cooling and cutting auxiliary power use by up to 97%, the system achieves nearly 30% improved cell degradation performance over a 20-year timeline. This results in lower operational costs and improved reliability, aligned with market-leading standards.

These advancements represent Peak Energy’s commitment to building a domestic supply chain for sodium-ion technology within the United States. This domestic approach ensures scalability and drop-in solutions that are vital for the energy industry’s future.

Contract Details: Milestones and Deployment

Under this agreement’s terms, Peak Energy will deliver approximately 720 MWh of energy storage systems in 2027. This marks a significant milestone as the largest-ever deployment of sodium-ion batteries to date. Additionally, Jupiter Power holds an option to receive up to 4 GWh of additional capacity through reserved projects between 2028 and 2030. In total, the contract’s value could surpass $500 million, underscoring the scale and potential of this collaboration.

The partnership between Peak Energy and Jupiter Power highlights the growing demand for Sodium-ion Battery technologies in rapidly evolving energy markets. With innovations that address long-term degradation and operational efficiency, sodium-ion batteries are poised to serve as a cornerstone in grid-scale storage solutions.

This agreement demonstrates Peak Energy’s leadership in advancing scalable, reliable, and cost-effective energy storage technologies for critical use cases in the United States energy sector.
